Education and Vocational Training for Inmates

A variety of educational and vocational training programmes are specially designed for inmates. They aim at achieving successful reintegration of inmates into the community. Inmates may apply for various courses according to their individual conditions, interests and needs.

School Education Programmes

Macao Prison, in cooperation with the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau, runs two courses:

1. Primary course
2. Secondary course

Inmates may apply to the Social Assistance, Education and Training Division according to their educational background and interests. After taking the proficiency tests carried out by the department concerned, the inmates will be grouped according to abilities. A report card will be presented to the inmates at the end of each course.

In addition, inmates may apply for and take correspondence courses. However, the contents and materials of these courses are censored by the Social Assistance, Education and Training Division before inmates are allowed to enrol.

Vocational Training

Macao Prison organizes various vocational training workshops for its inmates and they are taught by professional instructors. Inmates may apply to the department concerned for various job vacancies according to their interests and future career plans. The Prison will make assessment of their applications based on their behavioral, physical and psychological state, and then assign tasks accordingly.

The operation costs and profits of the workshops belong to the “Macao Prison Fund”. The workshops may accept orders from outside to provide inmates with more training of industrial skills and keep the workshops running. For details, please contact:
