Duties of the Training Team could be divided into the following two areas:

1. To plan training courses for Prison staff. Most of these courses are geared to the staff's needs at work. Through these training courses, it is hoped that staff's professional skills as well as their service quality could be enhanced and improved in order to cope with the future developments of the Prison.

After the handover, the Training Team has already launched a variety of training courses, including Search Training, Practical Writing, Introduction to the Usages of Pepper Spray and Gas Masks, Introduction to Infectious Diseases, Mountain Rescue, Leadership and Team Spirit, Guns and Armament, etc.

In addition, professional training courses are also designed for newly recruited prison guards. Aside from courses for their needs at work, other relevant courses will be introduced; for instance, Inmates’ Psychology Health, Elementary First Aid, Monitoring of Persons with Mental Illness, Reception, Code of Criminal Procedures, Criminal Code, Civil Service Policies, Physical Fitness Tests, Aikido, Self-defence Skills, Computer Usage, English Conversation and so on.

2. The Training Team is also responsible for organizing health and fitness activities for Prison staff. By taking part in various community and charity activities as well as competitions, it is hoped that the team spirit of the staff could be strengthened and their lives enriched. Staff of Macao Prison participated in a variety of activities last year, just to name a few, Walk for a Million, National Day Walk, and Walk for Love – Say No to Drugs. More importantly, through the participation of sports activities and exchanges, the friendship, experience as well as work collaboration of the correctional service personnel of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao is further strengthened.

Other participated competitions include, Dragon Boat Race, Beach Soccer, Pelota Game organized by the Macao Chinese Civil Servants’ Association as well as Shooting Competition organized by Macao Prison.

In general, the principle that the Training Team holds is to enhance the overall work performance of Prison staff as well as to enrich their lives.
